Vascular Press Journal
The Vascular Press Journal is the official a bimonthly publication of the Grupo Excelência Vascular/Angioconnect. It is directed to vascular surgeons and related professionals fields accepting national and international contributions in Portuguese and English. The journal aims to promote and disseminate scientific quality content contributing to the enrichment and enhancement of Vascular Surgery. Instructions to Authors follows the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, de 2009 (www.icmje.org).
Case Reports – This category includes descriptions of unique patients or situations, especially rare or previously undocumented diseases, as well as innovative methods of diagnosis or treatment. The text should consist of: Title in English and Portuguese, Abstract and Introduction, which positions the reader in relation to the importance of the subject matter and introduces the objectives behind presenting the case(s) in question; the Case Report itself; a Discussion, in which relevant aspects are examined and compared to the literature; and references, which should not exceed 10. The number of words should not exceed 1000, excluding tables and references. The limit number of references is ten. The recommended limit for figures (or figure parts) is eight. The body of the article should contain: Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, and References.
Original Articles – This category includes controlled and randomized trials, observational studies, as well as basic research using animals for experimentation. These articles are submitted speculatively by their author(s). Original articles must include the following sections: Title (in English and Portuguese), Summary and Abstract, Objective, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References. The text is not to exceed 3000 words, excluding tables, references, summary, and abstract. The number of references should not exceed 30, while figures (or figure parts) must be limited to 20, and tables to no more than 4.
Review Articles- These are critical and ordered assessments of the literature related to a specific theme of clinical importance. These submissions should include the following sections: Title (English and Portuguese), Summary and Abstract. Review articles should be limited to 3000 words, excluding references and tables, and a maximum of 6 figures (or figure parts). References must be current-preferably published within the last five years-with a maximum of 40 citations.
Letters to the Editor – In principle, these must discuss, criticize, or comment on articles published, however, Letters to the Editor can also relate to other topics of general interest. A maximum length of 250 words is recommended, and letters may contain up to five references. Whenever appropriate and feasible, a response from the authors of the article under discussion will be published along with the letter.
Cases for discussion / clinic case : Section for publication of interesting clinical cases and presenting unique aspects , curious or unconventional . It should describe the clinical, laboratory and evolutionary aspects of interest and should be sufficiently documented . Text a maximum of 3000 words, if excluding tables , references, summary and abstract. The number of references should not exceed 30 , limited to 20 figures and parts of figures and 4 tables.
Technical note: Is a short article giving a brief description of a specific development, technique or procedure, or it may describe a modification of an existing technique, procedure or device applicable to medicine. The technique, procedure or device described should have practical value and should contribute to clinical diagnosis or management. It could also present a software tool, or an experimental or computational method. Technical notes are variously referred to as technical innovations or technical developments. The main criteria for publication will be the novelty of concepts involved, the validity of the technique and its potential for clinical applications. The text is not to exceed 1500 words, excluding tables, references, summary, and abstract. The number of references should not exceed 15, while figures (or figure parts) must be limited to 5, and tables to no more than 2.
Manuscripts not in accordance with the following instructions will be given back to the authors for correction before review by the Editorial Board:
Submission Routine
After sending the manuscript to the Journal the author will be informed by contacting via e-mail. If the article is in accordance with the instructions and follows the rules of publication, it will be submitted for consideration anonymously by two reviewers appointed by the Chief Editor. Within 30 days, the authors will be informed about the acceptance or refusal of the changes may be suggested by the Editorial Board. The text with the requested changes should be returned by the author within 30 days. All changes to the article should be clearly indicated in the text, preferably in red and if any modification has been made, the author must justify it. The article is then sent back to the reviewers, who judge it again and defines the acceptance, the need for further corrections or refusal of the article. Upon acceptance, the article will go into production process of being published in a future edition, under the Editor-in-chief’s decision. This step will no longer be allowed content changes or the list of authors
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Previously published papers:
The papers submitted for publication may have been published elsewhere, in whole or in part, since they meet the following criteria:
– The authors have received approval from the editors of both journals (the editor concerned with secondary publication must have access to primary version).
– The priority of the primary publication is respected by a publication interval negotiated by both editors with the authors.
– The paper for secondary publication is intended for a different group of readers; an abbreviated version could be sufficient.
– The secondary version faithfully reflects the data and interpretations of the primary version.
– The secondary version informs readers, peers, and documenting agencies that the paper has been published in whole or in part elsewhere—for example, with a note that might read, “This article is based on a study first reported in the [journal title, with full reference]”—and the secondary version cites the primary reference.
– The title of the secondary publication should indicate that it is a secondary publication (complete or abridged republication or translation) of a primary publication.
Other information:
In cases of articles that include previously published figures, authors should cite the original source in the legend and, if the publisher or magazine has copyright, it is necessary to provide a letter of permission from the copyright holder.
The number of authors of each manuscript is limited to eight. Papers with more than eight authors should be accompanied by a justification for the inclusion of all the authors.
Before publication the corresponding authors will receive a PDF file, the edited article for approval and corrections requested that stage should be limited to typographical errors without changing the content of the study. The files if approved will be returned in up to 72 hours after the receipt of the message. Conflicts of interest Should be mentioned explicitly, with the registration of each author.
Below are the list of situations that should be declared as a conflict of interested:
– Participation in clinical and / or experimental studies, advisory or directive board, regulatory committees of scientific studies sponsored by industry;
– Receiving institutional support from the industry;
– Shareholder or relationship with industry owners or suppliers;
– Preparation of scientific papers in journals sponsored by industry;
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
Use word processor compatible with Microsoft Word, Font Times New Roman, size 12. Do not highlight sections of text to bold or underline style. Insert page number in all pages.
Do not write names in capital letters (eg SMITH) in the text or in the References
Abbreviated terms by acronyms should appear in full when first mentioned followed by the abbreviation in brackets; in subsequent references, only the abbreviation should be utilized (eg saphenous Accessory Previous – SAA). Do not use periods in acronyms (SAA write instead of S.A.A.)
Commercial product names must be accompanied by the trademark symbol (®) and information about the name, city and country of the manufacturer.
In short, one should avoid the use of abbreviations and symbols, and should not be cited in the references.
Below the abstract, the authors must provide at least three key words in Portuguese and English that are cited in the Descriptors list in Health Sciences (DeCS) elaborated by BIREME (http://decs.bvs.br) or in the Medical Subject Headings (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/meshhome.html), elaborated by the National Library of Medicine
Key items :
1 – Full name of the authors ;
2 – affiliations of the authors ( necessary data: Institution – SIGLA , Department , City, State, Country );
3 – mailing information ( required data : the author’s / Street , no, – City / Zip code – City (State ) , Phone , Country / E- mail for correspondence ) ;
4 – information about the authors ( necessary data: the author’s full name initials , followed by your current occupation ( example : ” JAB is a master of surgery by the Paulista School of Medicine ( EPM )”); 5 – inform the institution where the study was conducted ( example : ” The study was carried out ( a) in ( on ) … ” )
Tables
Tables (each table presented on a separate sheet) should be cited in the text and number them from using Arabic numerals in order of appearance , with title or explanatory text . Use only horizontal lines in the header and in the footer. Do not use vertical lines. Tables should not repeat information already described in the text and should be understood independently, without the aid of text. Abbreviations used in tables should be defined in footnote
Figures
The figures should be cited in the text (always using the name ” Figure ” and not “graphic” or “image”) and numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance, with an explanatory caption. Figures can be submitted in color for online publication. Figures should be submitted in electronic format (digital graphs and photographs) , in independent files , extensions .jpg , .gif or .tif . Will not be accepted scanned photos. Patients photos should not allow their identification. Figures should not repeat information previously described in the text and should be understood independently, without the aid of text. Abbreviations used in figures should be explained in the legend. Graphics must be made only in two dimensions.
Acknowledgment and Dedications
In this section, the authors should recognize the work of people who have contributed intellectually to the manuscript, but whose contribution does not justify co-authorship, or people or institutions that provided material support.
